Champions Blazer For Under 16 Team Says The President

Sikkim qualifies for the knock-out of Vijay Merchant (Under 16 Boy’s) Trophy 2019-20 by winning their match against Nagaland today by 9 wickets at Sovima Cricket Stadium, Dimapur, Nagaland. With this win, Sikkim has topped the Northeast and Bihar group. Sikkim will be playing five league matches in this tournament of which four matches have been played, winning three matches against Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Nagaland, one drawn as the match was abandoned due to rain against Arunachal Pradesh. The last match will be played against Manipur on 6th November 2019 at Ravenshaw University Ground, Cuttack, Odisha.

The match was started on 31st October where Nagaland won the toss and elected to bat first. In the first innings, Nagaland was all-out for 89 runs in 34.1 overs. Md Sarim Iqbal took 3 wickets, Obedonyx Subba; Tusya Naman Sharma and Yawar Hussain took 2 wickets each and Tarun Sharma took 1 wicket. Chasing a total of 89 runs Sikkim made 175 runs giving a lead to the team of 86 runs. Senge Wajahat Medhi scored 66 runs, Md Arif (31), Irfan Ansari (15),  Obedonyx Subba (18), Adiv Tamang (8), Md Sharim (6).

Team Sikkim With The Match Officials and Team Nagaland

In the second innings, Sikkim bowlers restricted Nagaland for 108 runs getting the target of just 22 runs. Once again the bowler showed aggressive bowling. Yawar took 4 wickets, Tusya 3 wickets, and Tarun 2 wickets. Sikkim achieved the target in five overs with the loss on one wicket where Adiv Tamang made 14 runs and Md Arif 6 runs.

This is for the first time Sikkim’s Under 16 team has entered the knock-out round and will be playing in the pre-quarterfinals of the tournament. The President of SICA, Lobzang G. Tenzing says he will be rewarding the team players with a “Special Blazer” that will identify them as Champions of SICA and also commemorate the history made by the team.
