SICA To Host First Two-Tier Club Cricket Tournament
The Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA) will be conducting the First Two-Tier Club Cricket Tournament. The main aims of organizing this tournament are to promote and spread the “Gentleman’s Game” to the far-flung parts of Sikkim. To unearth fresh talent especially among budding cricketers at the Under 16 and Under 19 levels. To encourage Clubs to register them with the Government of Sikkim and with SICA. To create a “pool” of cricketers who will then be eligible for selection to Sikkim State Cricket Teams to participate at The National Level tournaments of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The Tournament will commence this month at the Intra District level. Registration Forms can be downloaded from the SICA website www.sikkimcricket.com. The last date for submission of duly completed forms is 22nd February 2020.
Fifty percent of the teams from each District shall then qualify for the “Knock-Out Stage” of the Tournament. Furthermore, Clubs who register and adhere to/fulfill the norms and rules and regulations as laid down with SICA, over a period of time, will eventually be eligible for Voting Rights to SICA. This is a big incentive and privilege for Clubs to register and participate in this tournament.
Special stipulations for the tournament are that the playing Eleven from each Club must include two players each from the Under 16 and Under 19 category. Each club may include a maximum of three Under 23 or Senior players who have represented the State of Sikkim in the season 2019-2020. Each club may include a maximum of two “non-local” players who can furnish documents such as a Bank Statement from a bank in Sikkim for the past 12 months in their parents/self-name or for students a letter from the Principal /Head of The institution on the Institution Letterhead providing proof of their enrolment.
The top Eight Clubs that qualify for the Quarter Final stage will be deemed to form the “A Division” of Cricket Clubs which will then be eligible to participate in forthcoming tournaments. The remaining 9 to 16 club will be considered as “B Division”.
The Final Match of the Tournament is planned to be held along with the Inauguration of the SICA Cricket Ground at Rangpo.
