Sikkim Beats Mizoram In Women’s U23 One Day Trophy

Sikkim’s Women U23 team is creating history by winning four matches in a row in an ongoing Women’s U23 One Day Trophy 2019-20, which is being played at Odisha. So far Sikkim has played four matches and won all of them against Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram. They will be playing a total of nine matches in the league round of the plate group in the tournament.

They beat Mizoram today on the 2nd of February by a huge margin of 238 runs at KIIT Cricket Stadium, Bhubaneshwar, Odisha. The toss was won by Sikkim and seeing at the ground condition they decided to bat first. Nandika Kumari and Rinki Rajak gave a good start to the team by playing a partnership of 76 runs but the opening partnership was broke by Puipuii – the strike bowler of Mizoram, who took the wicket of Nandika. After the first dismissal, the captain Sarojini Giri took the charge and played outstanding innings and adding 185 runs to the board where she scored 73 runs. Rinki scored her first century of the tournament in this match, which she missed by 10 runs in two of the early match where she was out at 90. She remained 185 not-out in this match and Aruna Barman was not-out at 16 runs. Sikkim scored 316 runs with the loss of 2 wickets in 50 overs.

Mizoram had the target of 317 runs against the standard bowling line-up of Sikkim. From the beginning of Mizoram’s innings, Sikkim made the pressure by taking early wickets and not giving chance to the opponent to get settled. The wickets fall in regular intervals and Sikkim got them all out in 32.3 overs with just 78 runs on the board. Aruna Barman of Sikkim took 5 wickets, Pranita Chettri (2), Mariam Subba (1), and Rinki Rajak (1).

Sikkim earned 4 Point(s) for the win and is at the second-ranking of the Plate Group with a total of 16 Point(s). Rinki Rajak is leading the table of most runs all over India in this tournament with 419 runs, Aruna Barman is at 4th position of most wickets, Pranita Chettri is at number 3 for most maiden overs bowled (17 overs) and also at number 7 of best economy rates with an average of 1.42 per over.

The President of the Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA) met the team after the match and congratulated them for their successive wins. He also wished good luck for the remaining matches and assured the players that they will be rewarded if they keep the winning momentum and bring glory to the State.
