Sikkim Senior Women’s Team Won the One Day Match Against Mizoram

Sikkim Senior Women’s Cricket team won their One Day Match today against Mizoram at Ravenshaw University Ground 2, Cuttack, Odisha in an ongoing Senior Women’s One Day League 2018-19. Sikkim is participating in this tournament for the first time after getting the full membership of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Sikkim won the match with a huge margin of 216 runs. They won the toss and chose to bat. It was Priyanka Acharya’s 82 runs not-out, Tshering Ongmu Lepcha’s 48 runs and Ananya Upendran’s 46 runs that helped Sikkim reach the score of 260 runs after losing 7 wickets in 50 overs.

Sikkim’s brilliant bowling restricted the opponent Mizoram team to 44 runs in just 19 overs. Dichen Omgnu Lepcha of Sakyong, North Sikkim took a 5 wickets haul, Priyanka Acharya 2 wickets, Pranita Chettri and Ananya Upendran 1 wicket each. Dichen is a right-arm medium pacer and is representing Sikkim since 2007 and have played under different categories. Sikkim’s 2007 women’s team batch was also the first women’s cricket team batch of Sikkim.

“I am happy for this win as it is our first win of the tournament. I am also really happy for my today’s performance in the match. It is the first 5 wicket haul of my cricketing career. The main credit of this win goes to our batsman who brilliantly batted and scored a decent total and because of their performance we were able to bowl without the pressure and deliver a positive result. We are looking forward to the remaining games of the tournament and will give our best.”- says Dichen.

Purnima Rau, coach of the Senior team say, she is very happy with the performance of the girls in all the areas of the game. This is a historical win for Sikkim as it’s our first win in the Senior Nationals. The team is improving day by day and I am especially happy that the local players are contributing equally and performing well. Down the line in the next 5-6 years, I see girls from Sikkim even representing India.
