SICA Partners With CAB For Development Of Cricket In Sikkim
The Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to develop cricket in Sikkim.
The partnership will see the CAB, one of the largest and most successful cricket boards in India, come on board as a consultant and augment the efforts of the SICA to put Sikkim on the cricket map of India.
Through the relationship, CAB will work closely with the SICA and its programmes and infrastructure, with a view to enhancing cricket in the Himalayan State. CAB will conduct workshops for coaches, umpires, curators, trainers and auxiliary support staff, as well as share technology and technical know-how specifically towards the development of cricket. SICA said they are excited at this opportunity to partner with the CAB to help them grow the sport of cricket in the State. May CAB under its able president Abishek Dalmia lead Sikkim to new heights in cricket, said SICA President Lobzang G. Tenzing.
“At its core, the obvious by-product of the MOU and the excellent relation that is shared between SICA and CAB is that the players will benefit and learn through platforms like the exchange programme and workshops,” added SICA.
Commenting on the partnership, CAB president Avishek Dalmiya said, “CAB has always stood by other boards that are developing cricket in their States. Sikkim is working hard to develop the game and scout new talents from their scenic State and we have promised and will help them in every possible way.”
“Sikkim is playing good cricket. We have excellent relations with them and we have signed an MOU with them for giving exposure to their teams and hand holding their development projects,” he added.
Under the exchange programme, two teams from Sikkim, under-16 boys and u-19 women, have already reached Kolkata where they will play matches each against their corresponding Bengal teams. “We welcome the Sikkim teams to CAB, we have always supported their cricket and they will get all the help they need to develop their cricket,” said CAB secretary Snehasish Ganguly.
SICA hopes that initiatives like this would serve as a catalyst for encouraging the young cricket aspirants, their parents and society at large.
Sikkim along with other North Eastern States of Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, has been participating in Indian domestic cricket since 2018 after being granted full membership and voting rights.
CAB will be sharing expertise on various aspects of cricket matters.
Additionally, the SICA, in association with CAB, will also aim to establish a high-performance programme to professionalize the structure and set up for cricket in the State.
