Anureet Singh and Md Shahbaz Anwar Sets For Sikkim Ranji Team

As per the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) norms, three guest players are allowed in a team for the India Domestic Season to ensure that the teams have enough quality to remain competitive in various tournaments. As a common practice for all the full cricketing members, Sikkim has chosen its professional players for the upcoming season 2020-21. After signing the former Rajasthan captain Robin Bist, now Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA) announces that they have signed pacer Anureet Singh and Md Shahbaz Anwar for the upcoming season.

Anureet Singh is a medium-pacer who have played 11 years for Railways and moved to Baroda last season. He has also represented for India-A, India Red, Rest of India, Central Zone, Railways, and also played in IPL for Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals. Singh has taken 249 wickets so far in first-class cricket in 72 matches at an economy rate of just 2.73 including 16 five wickets haul. He has also scored 1,209 runs in first-class cricket and equally effective with both bat and ball in all formats of the game.

The pacer is excited to play and expresses that it is a big opportunity for him to prove himself in the role trusted upon him and will give his best to bring the team up and win. He added that he is also looking forward to sharing his experience with the new team and equally learn from his new teammates. “Cricket is such a sport where there is always new things to learn and it is a never-ending process,” he further added.

The third guest player, Md Shahbaz Anwar of Bengal, who has been part of Sikkim since last year in Under 23 Men’s team as a Wicket-Keeper Batsman has been upgraded to the Ranji team after his exceptional performance in 2019-20 season. He scored the total of 1,130 runs in 9 matches of Col. C. K. Nayudu Trophy including five centuries and six half-centuries and became the leading run-scorer of the tournament in his categories. In One-Day tournament, he scored 406 runs in 9 matches including a century and two half-centuries.

“SICA has signed some of the consistent performers in the domestic cricket and we believe they will keep the momentum going.” said President of SICA, Mr Tenzing.
