Sikkim Girl’s Team Makes Mark
After showcasing outstanding performance in Women’s Under 23 One Day Trophy earlier this month where Sikkim ended the tourney in the third position of the Plate Division, the Sikkim Under 19 girls have entered the Women’s U19 One Day Trophy 2019-20 with the same winning habit. The tournament has started on 19th February at Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh where Sikkim will be playing nine matches against Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chandigarh, J&K, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Puducherry. Sikkim has played two matches so far in the tournament and won both of them.
After winning the first match against J&K by 5 wickets, Sikkim won their second match today against Meghalaya at Y.S. Raja Reddy A.C.A. Cricket Stadium, Kadapa by 72 runs. Sikkim won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored 166 runs in 50 overs where Sumi Dutta knocked 47 runs, Anuska Bhattacharya was 47 not-out, Nindika Kumari 14 runs, Pranita Chettri 14 not-out, Dhanashree Bhosale scored 11 runs. Sikkim gave the target of 167 runs to win in 50 overs.
The target was not unachievable but Sikkim bowlers made it hard for Meghalaya as they were all out for 94 runs in 42.1 overs. Anuska took 5 wickets conceding just 15 runs in 8.1 overs and was well supported by other bowlers where Nandika took 4 wickets and Pranita took 1 wicket, all other bowlers were very economical throughout their spell and kept the run-rate below 3 per over.
Sikkim earned 4 points for this win and standing with a total of 8 points in the league table at third position with two wins. The team will be playing their next match against Puducherry on 26th February and with these wins, the dressing room is boosted with a positive attitude and looking forward to it.
