Sikkim Girls’ In Inter-Zonal One Day Cricket Tournament
Two women cricketers from Sikkim will represent Northeast/Bihar Zone in the upcoming Inter Zonal One Day Cricket Tournament.
Nur Pandi Lepcha (Leg spinner), Songkit Lhamoo Lepcha (wicket-keeper) have been picked in the 15 member squad for the National-Level tournament on the basis of their performance in the U-19 (Girls) Zonal Cricket Academy Camp held in April-May and the matches held subsequently.
The camp was attended by 25 talented players from Northeast/Bihar Zone selected according to their performance in the BCCI conducted National tournament at Dhanbad, Jharkhand in November last year.
Out of 25, four girls were from Sikkim namely, Neema Yanki Lepcha, Nur Pandi Lepcha, Songkit Lhamoo Lepcha and Tshering Yangdan Lepcha.
At the end of the 21 days camp, 3 matches were held where the 25 girls were divided into 2 teams and monitored by National selector Mrs. Lopamudra Banerjee along with the appointed coaches and support staff. On the basis of the individual player’s performance in those 3 matches, 15 players were selected to represent from Northeast/Bihar Zone team including two of Sikkim players.
The Inter Zonal One Day Cricket Tournament will be conducted by Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) at Chennai from 16th July to 25th July 2018, under the patronage of National Cricket Academy (NCA) as per the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) One Day matches rules. Six teams i.e. North Zone, East Zone, West Zone, South Zone, Central Zone and Northeast/Bihar Zone, will be playing again each other in this tournament.
At the Inter Zonal tournament, the players will also be observed for U-19 camp at National Cricket Academy (NCA).
