Sikkim Cricket To Include Professional Players For Upcoming Tournaments
Special General Meeting (SGM) of Sikkim Cricket Association (SCA) was held in Gangtok on 11th October 2018. During the meeting, it was unanimously resolved that 3 professional players as per the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) norms will be accommodated in SCA in Ranji Trophy, Senior Women’s One Day League and U19 Men’s Cooch Behar Trophy. This decision was taken on the advice of Sayed Saba Karim- General Manager, Cricket Operations, BCCI. The executive members and senior players also welcomed this decision. The executive body had agreed to this proposal on the 9th October and has submitted to SGM for approval. An open discussion was done for the same.
A three-member committee has been constituted to collect the documents and contact various state cricket associations to get guest players for Sikkim. Ashwin Oberoi, Nayan Tshering Bhutia, and Naresh Kumar Agarwal will be the members of this committee. Also, a committee was formed with K. C. Sharma and Tshewang Lama for preparation of calendar of events (tournaments) in Sikkim for development of Cricket.
Taking the recent malpractice of tampering documents in view the association has decided that all the documents of the players have to be checked and verified by the district cricket association and NOC has to be issue respectively for selection and trials. If any discrepancy found there onwards, the district body would be responsible for it.
The meeting was concluded by deciding that a disciplinary action will be taken against all the SCA members, players, support staffs and stakeholders, who have been hindering the growth of cricket in Sikkim.
