SICA Calls on CM, Extends Invitation to Inaugurate Rangpo Cricket Ground
Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA) Executives led by President, Lobzang G. Tenzing along with other executives and Ground Construction Committee called on Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang on 27the Feb.
A SICA release informs that the primary objective of the visit was to invite the Chief Minister as the chief guest for the Sikkim Cricket Ground inauguration. The Chief Minister was gracious enough to accept the invitation, the release mentions.
Mr Tenzing apprised the Chief Minister of the works conducted and submitted a progress report of the association from 2016 till date. On examining the report, the CM was pleased to observe the progress made by SICA as well as the tangible benefits the youth/people of Sikkim have received such as: a)Monetary benefits the player’s fee for the 2019-20 season amounting to Rs. 4,28,57,750/- (Four Crore Twenty Eight lakhs fifty-seven thousand seven hundred and fifty) and the professional fee of the support staff amounting to Rs. 1,90,00,000/- (One Crore Ninety Lakhs). b) Skill Development. c) Exposure in terms of not just the players participating in the national arena (currently, SICA has teams in 7 categories participating in 14 tournaments of The BCCI) but as well as training and exposure of support staff i.e. Coaches, Managers, Medical and Physio units.
President also submitted that Sikkim Cricket Association has hosted 3 national Tournaments this season at KIIT, Bhubaneswar (Our home ground approved by BCCI), Ravenshaw cricket ground and DRIEMS cricket ground, Cuttack, VIKASH cricket ground, Bhubaneswar, Therefore SICA would need more grounds in Sikkim to host such tournaments in the future.
The President also requested the Chief Minister to kindly make the public aware of the efforts as well as the benefits so that there would be a growth of interest in cricket.
SICA is extremely honoured by the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s intent to extend extensive support to the association, as he stated that such efforts would undoubtedly benefit the people/youth of Sikkim.
The recent visit to the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s office has reinvigorated the body as he not only extended his support but also expressed his intent to work in tandem with SICA. Such an effort would surely ensure effective and efficient performance.

We are very fortunate to have a Chief Minister who is former President of SICA and a current voting member understands the job of a cricket administrator as well as the workings of the BCCI like no other. He also shares a personal rapport with the current BCCI officials,” the SICA President has said.
