SICA Starts The Pre-Season With Knock-Out Round Of First Two-Tier Club Tournament 2020
Hon’ble Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs, Education, LR & DM and Law & Parliamentary Affairs Deptt Shri Kunga Nima Lepcha, inaugurated the fifteen daylong knock out stage of The Sikkim Cricket Association’s 1st two tier Club Tournament of Sikkim for clubs from all four districts at Reshithang Sports Complex Ground today in the presence of Secretary, Director, Additional Director of Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Additional Director General of Police, Law & Order and officers of Sports and Youth Affairs Department.
The Schedule for the Two Tier Club Tournament Knockout stage is from the 18th October to 2nd November 2020. The matches are being hosted at Reshithang Sports Complex Ground, with the Semi finals and Finals set to be held at Rangpo Cricket Ground whilst observing all safety protocols.
As, Sikkim is all set for its 1st two tier club Tournament, there are also, other equally important steps that SICA has taken under the (SICA) President’s Vision that are working in conjunction with various activities, the likes of which we have here today. This Vision aims at inclusiveness of the stakeholders at all levels, be it Governance, Administration or Participation.
Some of the steps taken to achieve this goal are:
- Formation of Player’s Body.
- Formation of District Bodies.
- Introduction of Voting Rights to District Associations and Player’s Body.
- Introduction of Voting Rights to Clubs, Speaking of which we will be giving 8 Clubs the distinction of (A- Division status).
- As well as, the introduction & facilitation of Club Culture in the State.
The inaugural match was played between Jorethang Brother’s Cricket Club (JBCC-A) and Melli Cricket Club, where JBCC A won the toss and opt to bat first. They scored 84 runs in 22.1 overs. In the second innings Melli Cricket Club were all out for 83 runs in 21.0 overs. Md Sharim Iqbal took 4 wickets in 6 overs and conceding 19 runs for JBCC – A and was declared Man of the Match.
SICA would like to thank the Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Rural Management & Development Department, Sikkim Armed Police, Police Department and the Clubs for helping make the Tournament a success during such difficult times.
