Nilesh Lamichaney, one of the finest cricketer we got in the state has been declared as the Captain of the Sikkim’s Senior Cricket Team today by the Coach Sanjeev Sharma for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018-19, in which Sikkim will be competing against five northeastern states, Bihar, Uttarakhand, and Puducherry in Plate Division. All the matches will be played in Gujarat.

Nilesh started his career in the 2004-05 season playing in the U15 team, where he was shaped by the then Coach Sonam Palden Bhutia. The next season 2005-06 he was made the Captain of U15 based on the performance where he scored his 1st Century against Bengal and became the first player from Sikkim to score a ton at home and also took 6 wickets in the same match. The same year he was promoted to U17 tour under the leadership of Lee Yong Lepcha and there he scored his 2nd Century batting at no 8 against Kerela. During 2012-13 season when Sikkim got the status as an Associate member of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), he was once again picked to lead the U19 team, where he scored 2 back to back centuries against Nagaland and Mizoram respectively and was also awarded as best Batsman of the tour.

“I have been leading the Sikkim Team since 2004-05, but this is First-Class Cricket and I am very thankful to our Coach, Support Staffs along with the Association for giving me the honor and opportunity to lead the side. I have full confidence in the team and we’ll play with our hearts and spirit. Looking forward to having a good tour.” says Nilesh.

The President of SCA, Lobzang G. Tenzing wishes him best of luck for the tournament and believes that he can take the role of Captaincy with pride and responsibility. He should take the whole team forward with the true spirit of sportsmanship and shouldn’t hesitate for talking bold decisions on behalf of the team and for the best results.
